Hi, I'm Taryn!
Well, this has been a long time coming. I can't say I haven't been thinking about starting this, and meeting you all for a long time, because I have. My internal debate started almost a year and a half ago, when we (my boyfriend Dave and I) bought our first house. I kept delaying the process because I couldn't think of a name. It was the most important thing for me. With the help of a friend, who didn't even realize he was helping, I now present you with Taryn It Up.
Before I get into that, let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm Taryn Gibb. I'm a quirky, impatient, overly passionate, emotional basket case. I am a project starter, rarely a project finisher. (Hopefully this blog will help with that!). I'm a big Toronto Blue Jay's fan, a cat mom and a teller of cheesey jokes and purveyor of funny faces.
Some people may say I work too much. I balance my day job, as a marketer for a big-box Home Improvement retailer, and my seasonal bar tending job at a local curling club. (All of my posts are my own, with no influence from my employer(s)).
Dave and I bought our house in Whitby, about 40 minutes east of Toronto in November, 2014 but didn't move in until March 2015. We're close to my family, some great local shops and restaurants and some fantastic friends. It's a cozy 3 bedroom bungalow on a spacious lot. We're in a quiet neighbourhood and we have big plans for this place.
I'm really not sure what to expect with this blog, but I know some people have been enjoying the photos of our journey, so I figured why not share them with more people! You can find a few photos of the house before we moved in right here on the blog. It really doesn't look so bad does it? The reality is, it did need a lot of work. From electrical, to flooring to general cosmetic features, we really wanted to personalize the space and modernize it. Like many other DIY renovators and bloggers, I've drawn on inspiration from a lot of different places. From the goddess of the modern rustic farmhouse, Joanna Gaines, to local shops, and even retail giants. I have pieces from everywhere, and DIY projects that will truly test my patience and at times my relationship.
I'm really excited to start this journey, and look forward to sharing our fun with you!
